Science Fair

Our school had Science Fair last Wednesday. There are a lot of cool projects in three topics of Physical Science, Earth Science & Life Science. Students chose topics last October and turned in this January. All projects made on board with an abstract to go with. The Judge worked from 4 to 5pm and the Fair was from 6 to 7pm. Though it was chilly and raining slightly, still many parents and students came in. Following are some facts about the Fair:

Principal awards:
- Which parachute is best for an egg?
- Do Debbie Meyer green bags really work?
- Fruit batteries
- Weekday vs. weekend: Which one of these has the most effect on the blood glucose of a person with type 1 diabetes?
- What bread molds the fastest?

Most projects, including winning ones, on or relating to food and and fruits. Here just to name a few:
- Fruit batteries
- What brand of white bread molds the fastest?
- Spoiled Rotten!
- Got milk?
- How strong is your sandwich bag?

Interesting/strange ideas:
- Who's mouth is cleaner dogs or humans?
- Attention span of cats

Nice title:
- Battle of the sexes: Memory Edition

Attached photos are some winning projects which can participate in 35th Annual Jersey Shore Science Fair hosted by Stockton College on March 20.

Everything is possible, everything is seeable

I found this website is very useful for any teacher and prospective teacher. There are videos for any topics and subject areas and any grade levels. Anything you can think of,even persuasive writing, is being visualized. Isn't it great?

TESTING TIME

Hello everyone,

Our class is at the end of the third marking period. Everybody is anticipating their grades. But before you get your real scores, try this small test on root words. There are more quizs in the website. Hope that this will help you less anxious and more excited. Good luck!

Parents- Schools Communication

Today, with speedy technology development, we've known many cool online communication tools that strengthen the relationship between parents and schools. Some of them are PowerSchool, SchoolFusion, Moodle, Edline, Homework Portals, eBoards.

However, non-tech or interpersonal communication is still very important. Below are some strategies that bridge schools and parents:

* First call home or first listening session: "Tell me about your child"
* Home writing journal
* Invite families to come and read (in any language)
* Coffee and donuts one morning a week
* Make use of the elementary school "hand-off"
* Research projects on communities issues
* Organize child care activities

And here is the chart that compare the two ways of communication: tech and non-tech
